Reading Discovery with Barbara Bush
Former first lady, Barbara Bush, visited with students from around the country via videoconferencing. Mrs. Bush read excerpts from “The Election Book: People Pick a President” and answered questions via videoconferencing from the students. Schools selected from around the country were from Texas, Idaho, Virginia, Michigan. Gould School was the only school selected from New Jersey to participate. Sixth grade teacher David Miller, Media Specialist Sue Gareffa and Technology Instructor Jeanne Jeffrey submitted the proposal to be selected.
6th grade student Brielle Krause asked Mrs. Bush how her children felt about having a father as president. Mrs. Bush replied that her children had many advantages, but the lack of privacy was sometimes difficult. She discussed the presidential election process and significant historical elections and emphasized the importance of discovering new ideas through reading. All students received a copy of The People Pick a President by Tamara Henneman.

Hi Mrs. Jeffrey!
I love the Barbara Bush post– the video bite you selected was perfect. What a great experience for Mr. Miller’s class to have had.
